EU APPROVED!
Free From 1,400 Toxic Chemicals
Ingredients Matter:
Some ingredients are just a no-go. From hormone disrupters, to environmental pollutants, XMH Beauty’s lineup bans more harmful ingredients than the US.
HALLELUJAH!! We’re EU approved. But what does that mean exactly? Well, the European Union has spent the past two decades restricting or banning approximately 1,400 harmful chemicals and ingredients from beauty and hygiene products.
In North America, Canada’s number of restricted ingredients is a little less than half that, at around 600.
The United States? Just 30.
Shocked? Well, us too! To be fair, that may seem strikingly low compared to our international counterparts, but it’s actually an improvement from what it USED it be.
Back in 1938, the U.S. had only banned 11 unsafe chemicals for use in personal care products. Almost a century later, the US is still WAY behind!
In 1990, the FDA banned red dye #3 from cosmetics. At the end of 2015, President Obama signed a bill prohibiting the sale of products made with plastic microbeads (remember those in like EVERY shower gel???) because of their harmful effects on the environment. They went down our drains and into the oceans and waterways, devastating the ecosystem. (Chalk up at least one point there for President Obama.)
Most recently in 2016, the FDA restricted the use of triclosan and other ingredients in antibacterial soaps, due to evidence of potential health risks “such as bacterial resistance or hormonal effects.”
However, there is still a HUGE gap between the amount of chemicals other countries like the European Union have found to have concerning effects, versus those few that the U.S. has yet to ban or restrict.
At XMH Beauty, we’re committed to launching only Cosmetics that fill that void of EU-approved Cosmetics.
To that end, the first step of our Ingredient Selection Process is ban intentionally. We started by eliminating over 1,400 chemicals banned or restricted in personal care products by the European Union, and then ensured that our Cosmetics were not only VERY safe, but highly pigmented and performed INCREDIBLY on camera and in real life.
This means approximately 1,400 ingredients are already off the table before we even begin to formulate.
While the U.S. government has taken action on only 30 big-offender ingredients, we commit to go far beyond what is legally asked of us because, quite simply, we love our GlamBabes!!
If you’re ready to see which of of the ingredients banned in other countries and products might lurk in the products you use everyday, we recommend the Environmental Working Group (EWG)’s Skin Deep database.
